The Planning Division is responsible for administering the City's zoning and land use codes. The City's land use regulations are intended to create a positive business and living environment while preserving and enhancing the appearance of the City.
The Current Planning Section can help you with some of the design features, explain the requirements, and help you through the City application process if you are planning to:
- Enlarge your home,
- Construct a new retail building,
- Remodel an existing commercial building, or
- Locate a new business in Garden Grove.
For development standards (e.g. setback requirements, parking requirements, landscaping requirements, etc.) please see Title 9 in the City's Municipal Code.
The Advance Planning Section is involved in:
- Updating the General Plan (or constitution) which is the blueprint for the physical development of Garden Grove,
- Updating the City's land use regulations to implement the goals of the community, and
- Interacting with other agencies to try to solve regional issues such as traffic congestion, air quality, and housing needs.
