Redevelopment Project Areas

A "project area" is the area within which the actual redevelopment will take place. The project area must first go to public hearing (giving citizens who will be included in the project area an opportunity to express their views) after which the redevelopment agency acts on the adoption of the project and becomes primarily responsible for future projects.

In Garden Grove there are currently two redevelopment project areas. A description of each area follows (Garden Grove Agency for Community Development Project Area Map):

Garden Grove Community Project Area

The existing Garden Grove Community Project areas are the Harbor Corridor Entertainment District, the Garden Grove Boulevard commercial area, the Brookhurst/Chapman commercial area, the Auto Center, the Industrial Area on the west side and the Downtown area.

Buena Clinton Project Area

The Buena Clinton Project, established in 1980, contains approximately 38 acres of land. The major land use is multifamily residential. The major objectives of the Buena-Clinton Redevelopment Plan are (1) to upgrade the area through rehabilitation of existing structures and construction of new buildings, (2) to ensure that all housing in the Project Area is decent, safe and sanitary, (3) to eliminate blight and the conditions that cause blight, (4) to provide for and maintain the environment for the social, economic, and psychological growth and well-being of all citizens in the Project Area; and (5) to encourage and attract private investment to the project in an effort to improve property values and the resulting tax flow to all public taxing agencies.
