Following the last round of public meetings to establish city districts for the 2016 elections that began in January 2016, is the second public hearing, taking place on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. The hearing takes place during the regular Garden Grove City Council meeting, at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center Council Chamber, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
At the hearing, proposed voting district maps created from input received at the public meetings will be presented to the City Council for their consideration, by Mr. David Ely from Compass Demographics, the firm overseeing the districting process. The hearing provides another opportunity for the public to provide input and obtain any additional information on the districting process.
The final public hearing is currently scheduled for the regular City Council meeting of Tuesday, April 26, 2016. The City Council is anticipated to vote on an ordinance establishing boundaries for the six city districts at the April 26 public hearing. The ordinance would go to a second reading at the May 10, 2016 regular City Council meeting to confirm the new voting district map and implement the ordinance.
Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese interpreters will be present at both public hearings for language assistance.
At the next regular City Council meeting of Tuesday, March 22, 2016, Ely will provide an update on the district elections mapping process to the City Council, and introduce sample and proposed voting district maps based on public input. As of Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the City Council meetings return to the Council Chamber at the Community Meeting Center, at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
The public is encouraged to attend upcoming City Council meetings and participate in the public hearings. If individuals are unable to attend the public hearings, comments or questions can be sent to Garden Grove City Clerk Kathleen Bailor. The City Clerk’s telephone number is (714) 741-5040; the email address is firstname.lastname@example.org; or by mail or in-person at 11222 Acacia Parkway.
