Garden Grove TV3 continues its tradition of excellence in community and government broadcasting by gaining national recognition for its programming. Recently, the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) awarded Garden Grove TV3 with three top awards and three honorable mentions at their Government Programming Awards Gala in Orlando, Florida on September 19.
The 2013 "State of the City" video won second place in the Promotion of a City/County category. The program was recognized as one of the top two out of 18 entries from across the nation. The video, featuring Mayor Bruce Broadwater, reviews the City's accomplishments in 2012 and the outlook for future developments, public safety, and quality of life.
Two Veteran's Day tributes also received accolades. "World War II Veteran Profile: Jack Norman Gutman" received second place for Audio/Sound Recording and "Iraq War Profile: Michael Anthony Monsoor" received third place in the Editing category.
Hospital Apprentice 1st Class World War II Navy Medic Jack Norman Gutman served in the Normandy Invasion, encountered plane bombings, and helped the wounded in Okinawa. Petty Officer 2nd Class and Navy SEAL Michael Anthony Monsoor smothered a grenade while engaging insurgents in Ramadi, Iraq on September 29, 2006. His actions saved the lives of his two SEAL teammates.
In addition to these awards, three Honorable Mentions were presented. The "Garden Grove Pride" video was recognized in the Community Awareness category, "Working Wardrobes" was recognized in the Interview/Talk Show category and Garden Grove TV3 was recognized for Programming Excellence. The Government Programming Awards (GPAs) are annual awards that recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. Celebrating over 25 years of programming excellence, the GPA's celebrate the achievements of government programmers across the nation.
