Veteran to Praise Scouts for Service to Garden Grove Parks Flag Patrol
Over 100 members of local Boys, Girls and Cub Scout Troops who served on the Garden Grove Parks Flag Patrol this summer will be honored for their color guard service on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at a ceremony being held at the Courtyard Center, 12732 Main Street in Garden Grove. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. and features keynote speaker U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Terry Banning.
In recognition of Patriot’s Day, Petty Officer Banning will stress the significance of service to both country and community, and praise the youth for their dedication. Members of the Garden Grove City Council will present certificates to the 102 scouts for their participation in the program.
Petty Officer Banning served in Afghanistan with the U.S. Navy and now serves as a Veteran Outreach Liaison for the Mental Health Association of Orange County.
Organized in 2010, the Flag Patrol program honors our country’s patriotism through the raising and lowering of the American flag over City parks. During summer this year, 10 scout troops attended City parks to raise the flags.
