Two, upcoming public hearings represent the final opportunities for the community to comment on the selection of a six-district electoral map, to be in effect for the 2016 elections. The public hearings take place on Tuesday, April 12 and April 26, at 6:30 p.m., during the regular meeting of the Garden Grove City Council.
The City of Garden Grove officially announces the immediate retirement of the City’s Public Safety Administrative Officer and former fire chief, David Barlag.
Barlag started his Garden Grove Fire Department career in 1986, holding every position in the department, until achieving the rank of fire chief in 2012. In September 2014, he resigned as fire chief, and accepted the position of Public Safety Administrative Officer.
Got a great-looking, water-wise front yard? It may be chosen to receive the ‘Best Water-Wise Home’ recognition at the 43rd annual Garden Grove Pride Awards on May 23, 2016. Garden Grove homeowners interested in competing are asked to call the Recreation Division at (714) 741-5290 no later than Monday, April 18, 2016.
The Garden Grove Police Department has partnered with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to promote awareness, educate and conduct enforcement activities at ABC licensed establishments pertaining to alcohol-related crimes and problems.
The Garden Grove Police Department has received a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, in the amount of $35,965 to help reduce alcohol-related crimes and reduce the availability of alcohol to minors. The grant operational period will extend to June 30, 2016.
Following the last round of public meetings to establish city districts for the 2016 elections that began in January 2016, is the second public hearing, taking place on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. The hearing takes place during the regular Garden Grove City Council meeting, at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center Council Chamber, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
Garden Grove Pride judges are out and about, so it’s time to work on that curb appeal. From now through April 10, Garden Grove Pride volunteers will be perusing the city’s neighborhoods in search of the nicest-looking homes. The volunteers will use their best judgment to choose just 23 homes in each of the city's 17 zones, including their top selection, the Home of the Year. Each zone contains approximately 3,000 homes. The Best Water-Wise home will also be recognized.
The City of Garden Grove is looking for sponsors to help support its 60th Anniversary celebration. The free event takes place on Saturday, June 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in Village Green Park, located at 12732 Main Street.
Sponsorship opportunities include a retro candy “sugar shack;” a ceremonial birthday cake and free cupcakes for the first 1,000 guests; commissioning a commemorative mosaic art mural; custom logo giveaways; activity areas for children and teens; and hosting the main event: an exclusive Orange County performance by the band SOTO.
