On Thursday, August 13, at Garden Grove’s final summer concert, the winner of this year’s Voice of Garden Grove was chosen among five local high school students. The Voice of Garden Grove and the $500 cash prize winner was Amber Tran from Bolsa Grande High School. Tran sang “At Last” by Etta James. A donation of $500 went to Bolsa Grande’s Choir Department.
Among the remaining contestants, Mariah Abato from Pacifica High School was announced runner-up and received a $250 cash prize. Abato performed “Walk on Water” by Britt Nicole. Pacifica High School’s Choir Department also received a $250 donation, accepted by Pacifica’s choir teacher, David Joseph.
The students were scored on a 100-point scale by five judges, including Garden Grove Community Foundation Vice President and Planning Commissioner Andrew Kanzler.
The program was sponsored by the Garden Grove Community Foundation (GGCF). GGCF supports education and the arts in the community, and the Voice of Garden Grove program is one way they can provide performance and scholarship opportunities to local high school students.
