Pacifica Student Named “The Voice of Garden Grove” 2016

At Garden Grove’s final summer concert last week, the winner of The Voice of Garden Grove was chosen among five Garden Grove Unified School District high school students. Kayla Renee Wandelt, a junior from Pacifica High School, was announced The Voice of Garden Grove 2016 and awarded a $1,000 prize, half of which will go to Pacifica High School’s Choir Department. The winning song was “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals.

 
District Election Mapping Now on City’s Webpage

Residents can now search their district by address through the 'District Election Mapping' page under the Open Government main tab. The map also pinpoints schools, outlined in yellow, and parks, outlined in green, for each district.

On May 10, 2016, the City of Garden Grove adopted Ordinance No. 2866 changing the City's current at-large system of electing City Council Members to a by-district system.

Homeless Outreach Event Attracts Numerous Participants

About 70 members of the homeless community attended the first multi-agency Homeless Outreach Program on Saturday, July 30, 2016, coordinated by the Garden Grove Police Department. The event was held in the parking lot of 7861 Garden Grove Boulevard, Garden Grove, and involved law enforcement agencies from the Cities of Westminster and Anaheim.

“It was a successful event. We helped more from the homeless community at this event than we did in previous homeless outreach efforts," said Garden Grove Police Chief Todd Elgin.

 
Lampson Avenue Storm Drain Construction to Begin

Lampson Avenue, from West Street to Merrill Street is set to undergo construction beginning August 8, 2016 through September 2016. The improvements, when complete, will help to alleviate flooding on Lampson Avenue at the Merrill Street intersection.

Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Motorists are advised that traffic on Lampson Avenue may be reduced to one lane to facilitate construction work. There will be no parking allowed in the construction zone, but access to residences along the construction area will be maintained at all times.

 
Recent Coyote Sightings Prompt Warnings, Prevention

Recent coyote sightings in Garden Grove have prompted the City to make local residents aware of coyotes in the area, urging them to take needed precautions to protect themselves, their pets, and their property against these wild animals.

The community is encouraged to report coyote sightings by calling the City’s coyote hotline number at (714) 741-5286. Callers should include date, time, and location of sightings. If the coyote is posing an imminent threat to life, call 9-1-1.

 
Openings for First-Time Garden Grove Homebuyer Workshop

Openings are available for the first-time Garden Grove homebuyer workshop. The workshop will take place on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Garden Grove H. Louis Lake Senior Center, located at 11300 Stanford Street.

The workshop will introduce potential Garden Grove homeowners to the basic steps of home buying, including how to qualify for a home mortgage, as well as information on financial assistance programs offered through the City.

Knott, Valley View to Undergo Street Improvements

Knott Street, from Garden Grove Boulevard to Lampson Avenue, is set to undergo street improvements beginning Tuesday, July 26, 2016 through October. Also, a small segment on Valley View Street, from the 22 Freeway westbound off-ramp to Tiffany Avenue, is tentatively set to undergo improvements from August through December.
