Final Opportunity to Attend District Based Public Informational Meeting

The process of determining City districts for the 2016 elections is nearing the end with the last public informational meeting on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. The meeting takes place at the Garden Grove Sports and Recreation Center, located in Garden Grove Park, 13641 Deodara Drive.

Following the last round of public meetings will be a public hearing on Tuesday, March 22, at 6:30 p.m. The hearing takes place during the regular Garden Grove City Council meeting, at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.

The Garden Grove Community Foundation is looking for vocally talented local high school students to compete in the 5th annual Voice of Garden Grove singing competition for a chance to win $500 and the title “Voice of Garden Grove 2016.” Another $500 will be donated towards the winning student’s high school choir.

Community Meetings Continue for Voting District Maps

Members of the community are invited to participate in upcoming community meetings to provide input on the formation of new district voting maps for the city. The first meeting is this Wednesday, March 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Buena Clinton Youth and Family Center, located at 12661 Sunswept Avenue. The meeting will be facilitated by David Ely from Compass Demographics, the firm overseeing the formation of six voting districts for the 2016 elections.

Police Chief to Honor 109 Good Samaritans

For five years, the Garden Grove Police Department has been awarding Good Samaritans in the community with a special “Chief’s Coin for Merit.” On Thursday, February 25, Police Chief Todd Elgin will host a recognition dinner honoring all 109 coin recipients for 2015. The dinner will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites, 11767 Harbor Blvd.

Each year, the 200-plus members of the Garden Grove Police Department are issued one coin, with instructions to award the coin to an individual demonstrating an exceptional act of kindness or heroism.
