City Approves Management Salary Cutbacks to Reduce $6M Deficit

Since the beginning of the year, the City of Garden Grove has been undergoing rigorous belt-tightening to help alleviate a $6 million hole left by the loss of the City’s redevelopment agency in February. At last night’s regular City Council meeting, the Garden Grove City Council tightened yet another notch by voting 4-to-0 (Council Member Nguyen absent) on approving salary cutbacks for all management staff.

 
New Traffic Monitoring Camera System Goes on Display in City Hall

Traffic monitoring has gone high-tech and high-visibility in Garden Grove City Hall with the completion of a new, large multi-screen, Traffic Management Center. The Center will be officially dedicated next Tuesday, March 13, 2012. A public open house will take place during regular City Hall hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by a private reception at 5:30 p.m. The new, $3.5 million Center, visible to the public through a wide glass opening, is located in the Engineering section of the first-floor City Hall lobby, at 11222 Acacia Parkway.

 
Free Compost Giveaway to Garden Grove Residents

compost.gifGarden Grove residents can receive up to 60 gallons, per vehicle, of nutrient-rich compost for free at Garden Grove’s annual Compost Giveaway. Rain or shine, the event takes place on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Garden Grove Municipal Service Center, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or until supplies run out.

Garden Grove Strawberry Festival

The 57th Annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival will be held Memorial Day Weekend Friday, May 22nd through May 25th at the Village Green between Main and Euclid in downtown Garden Grove. Festivities begin Friday, May 22nd at 1:00 p.m. with games and carnival rides.

On Friday at 6:00 p.m. is the grand opening ceremony when the mayor and Miss Garden Grove cut a giant strawberry shortcake and free cake is served to all. Many parade celebrities will also be on hand to greet their fans.
