GARDEN GROVE, Calif., July 9, 2014 – Garden Grove’s second Walmart store is opening Wednesday, July 16, after a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. The new store is conveniently located at 11822 Gilbert Street and is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. The store will provide residents with low prices on a broad assortment of merchandise and offer Walmart's free Site to Store program, enabling customers to choose from nearly a million additional online items that can be ordered on and picked up at the Garden Grove store for free, often as quickly as the same day.

“Walmart has already benefited our community with its Neighborhood Market, and we are looking forward to the opening of the Walmart Supercenter, as it will provide much needed jobs, economic development opportunities and tax revenues for our City,” said Garden Grove Chamber President and CEO Dave Ahern.

The new store employs approximately 200 full-and part-time associates. Store manager Michael Hardaway began his Walmart career in 1989 as a part-time electronics associate in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after which he was promoted through the ranks to assistant manager, co-manager, and store manager.

“My team is excited to open our doors to the Garden Grove community just in time for summer,” said Hardaway. “We have everything you need for your picnics, cookouts and outdoor fun.”

Affordable Groceries to Meet All Your Needs
The new store offers fresh produce and a full line of groceries from all the leading brand names, including organic and natural selections. There is also a wide variety of meat and bakery selections to make entertaining easy.The Garden Grove store also offers a full liquor selection including beer, wine and spirits.

In addition to groceries, the store features quality, value-priced general merchandise,including electronics and patio furniture. In addition, customers can shop a broader assortment of items online at and then pay for these purchases with cash in all of Walmart U.S. stores and Walmart Neighborhood Markets, including the new Garden Grove store.

The pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions. Garden Grove residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebration includes presentations of $32,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups, including a $25,000 state giving grant to the Cal State Fullerton Philanthropic Foundation to support Project M.I.S.S., a program to assist college bound young women in enhancing their mathematics skills.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in California donated approximately 23.1 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 19.3 million meals.
