Father Christopher Smith, newly-appointed Episcopal Vicar and Rector of the formerly-named Crystal Cathedral, will serve as the keynote speaker at the annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Garden Grove, sharing how “the future Christ Cathedral will honor the legacy of the iconic Crystal Cathedral and create an exciting future for the benefit of all.” The event will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at the Garden Grove Community Center, 11300 Stanford Avenue. Registration and a breakfast buffet open at 7:00 a.m., with the program beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Having served as a priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange for over 34 years, Father Smith is honored to be guiding such a revered and recognized worship center on a new path. “Through the Crystal Cathedral, Dr. Schuller and his congregation have built a ministry that has had an enormous transforming impact on our city, nation and world. It’s a legacy of glory. I am humbled to be leading the campus to a future of promise.”
The non-denominational event will also feature entertainment by the Celebration of Life Singers, the only choir in the country comprised entirely of cancer survivors and their support partners.
Receiving the prestigious Community Spirit Award are two local chapters of Kiwanis International, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Garden Grove and the Garden Grove Evening Kiwanis. Both non-profits have raised tens of thousands of dollars to help provide meals to families in need, clothe and shelter homeless, and support charities serving children with life-threatening illnesses.
Tickets are $30 each. Reservations may be made by calling the Office of Community Relations at (714) 741-5280.
