Beginning Monday, May 25 through Sunday, May 31, the City of Garden Grove invites the community to participate in a annual online voting contest to pick the best-looking home in Garden Grove as part of the 42nd anniversary of the City's annual home beautification program, Garden Grove Pride. The Best Home and Garden title will go to the home with the most online votes and be announced at the Garden Grove Pride Awards Ceremony held on Monday, June 1.
A new date has been announced for the 28th annual Call to Duty Police Memorial, which was postponed from May 14, due to rain. The new date is Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 5:00 p.m., in front of Police Headquarters, at 11301 Acacia Parkway.
Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen will lead a community forum to discuss the proposed Huntington Beach Desalination Project, currently in the late development stages. The public forum will take place on Tuesday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m., in the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
Due to rain in the forecast, the 28th annual Call to Duty Police Memorial, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, May 14, has been postponed. A new date for the memorial will be announced shortly. In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, Garden Grove City Hall and the H. Louis Lake Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2015. No street sweeping services will be provided on the holiday. Streets will be swept as scheduled on all other days. Also, trash pick up will be delayed by one day.

Garden Grove Police Department Will Show Zero Tolerance
Garden Grove's sweet celebration of senior volunteerism, the Strawberry Ball, marks its 40th anniversary this year. Hosted by the City of Garden Grove Community Services Department, the gala will be held at the Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue, on Thursday, May 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving
In the United States, Cinco de Mayo - like St. Patrick's Day - is, for many people, just an occasion for having a good time with alcohol. Do you plan to join the fiesta on May 5? The Garden Grove Police Department has planned to deploy officers looking to identify and stop suspected drunk drivers. Additionally, every traffic and patrol officer assigned to duty will be on heightened alert to prevent a senseless tragedy due to alcohol or drugs.
Garden Grove seniors are invited to celebrate Mother’s Day with a fun-filled event that includes dancing, food, and special treats, sponsored by Scan health plan group. The event will take place at the H. Louis Lake Senior Center on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the Senior Center Dining Room, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
Lunch will also be available for a suggested donation of $3.50 per person. “The Serenaders” will provide live music.
In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, Garden Grove’s H. Louis Lake Senior Center will be hosting a fiesta on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, starting from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the Senior Center Dining Room, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
Festivities include traditional food, dancing, and live entertainment by Armando Valencia, sponsored by Professional Health Care Services, Inc. Lunch will also be available for a suggested donation of $3.50 per person.
