For a third year, the City is recognizing Garden Grove college graduates for their outstanding accomplishments. The City is seeking names and information from Garden Grove residents who will receive a Spring or Fall 2015 undergraduate or post-graduate academic degree from any college or university. Graduates who submit their information by April 1, 2015 will be recognized at the Tuesday, April 28, 2015 City Council meeting, at 6:30 p.m.
The Garden Grove Community Foundation (GGCF) begins the year with a new President and Board of Directors. This year’s President is Jeremy Harris, Garden Grove resident and Senior Vice President for the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. Harris is a long time GGCF member of the Foundation, and former Vice-President.
The H. Louis Lake Senior Center is coordinating a day trip to Pechanga Resort and Casino. Join the fun on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at a cost of $35 per person. The price includes bus transportation, continental breakfast, and $20 back in slot play.
The bus departs from the H. Louis Lake Senior Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue, promptly at 8:00 a.m., and will return by approximately 5:00 p.m.
The new year brings new technology for the City of Garden Grove’s Cable Division. Garden Grove’s local Channel 3 can now be accessed live on the City’s YouTube Channel. To access the channel, click “Garden Grove TV3 Live Streaming."
In observance of the Presidents Day holiday, Garden Grove City Hall and the H. Louis Lake Senior Center will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2015. No street sweeping services will be provided on the holiday. Streets will be swept as scheduled on all other days. However, trash pick-up is still scheduled for that day.

Speaking before a sell-out crowd of 400 attendees at today’s State of the City luncheon, Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen pointed to community engagement as the fundamental principle and driving force guiding the City’s future direction.
A widely-used, but until recently, unlit public basketball court at Magnolia Park in Garden Grove is now illuminated for night play, courtesy of the collaborative efforts of a neighborhood pastor, a non-profit group, and an Orange County businessman.
Senior sweethearts are invited to attend a romantic night at the annual Sweetheart Dance hosted by the H. Louis Lake Senior Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue. The event is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., on Friday, February 13, 2015.
Cost of admission is $10, pre-sale only. Deadline for tickets is Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Cost includes dancing, entertainment provided by the “Serenaders,” and dinner with beverages.

The H. Louis Lake Senior Center will host a free movie day on Thursday, February 12, 2015 starting at 9:30 a.m., in the Community Meeting Center A Room, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
All seniors are invited to enjoy munchies and the movie “And So It Goes,” starring Diane Keaton and Michael Douglas.
