Police Chiefs Honor Good Samaritans

Chiefs Coin 1.jpgChiefsCoin2.jpgSince 2011, the Garden Grove Police Department has been awarding Good Samaritans in the community with a special “Chief’s Coin for Merit.” On Wednesday, February 4, Retired Police Chief Kevin Raney and newly-appointed Police Chief Todd Elgin will host a recognition dinner honoring all 106 coin recipients for 2014.

Half Marathon Road Closures

On Sunday, January 18, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., various streets in the Grove District – Anaheim Resort area, along Harbor Boulevard, and in the Garden Grove Civic Center, will be closed for Disney’s inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon. The 13.1 mile race will begin at the Disneyland® Resort and affect various streets in Garden Grove, including Harbor Boulevard, Garden Grove Boulevard, Main Street, Euclid Street, and Chapman Avenue, limiting entrance and exit access.

Harbor Boulevard to Undergo Improvements

Harbor Boulevard, from Garden Grove Boulevard to Chapman Avenue, is set to undergo construction beginning Monday, January 19, 2015 and continuing through September 2015. The work will consist of new landscape and irrigation improvements in the median islands and parkways, parkway lighting, and decorative sidewalk and concrete improvements, and installation of a new traffic signal. Storm drain and sewer improvements will take place on Twintree Lane, Choisser Road, Greentree Avenue, and Bangor Street.

Senior Center Hosts "PJ Party"

The H. Louis Lake Senior Center will host a “PJ Party” on Thursday, January 15, 2015 starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Senior Center Dining Room, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.

Seniors are invited to wear their favorite pajamas for a day at the annual party packed with fun, food, and activities. The event is free to the public.

Applicants must be Garden Grove residents, be able to serve a two year term of office, and be available to attend regularly scheduled meetings. City Manager Announces Retirement

Yet, key projects and developments, once led by the department’s former fire chief David Barlag, who resigned two months ago, have necessitated the City’s decision to retain the former chief’s services in a different capacity.
