Spring is the perfect time of year to start digging and planting! Garden Grove residents short on planting space for vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers, have an opportunity to grow their own produce in the City of Garden Grove’s Community Garden, located at the northeast corner of Eighth Street and Garden Grove Boulevard.
At last night’s Garden Grove City Council meeting, the three winners of the Main Street logo design contest selected by the Main Street Commission were given cash prizes and congratulations. The artwork of Carina Dan, Tony L. Rivera, and Irah Mapaye placed first, second, and third, respectively.
In preparation of the impending rainy season, the City of Garden Grove reminds all residents of the availability of up to 10 free sand bags, on first-come, first serve basis, at the following city locations:
Fire Station #2, 11805 Gilbert Street
Fire Station #3, 12132 Trask Avenue
Fire Station #4, 12191 Valley View Street
Since last August, the public has been submitting ideas and images for the Re:Imagine Downtown campaign, the City of Garden Grove’s 20-year visioning for the civic center area, through an online forum called Mindmixer. Now, feedback will come face-to-face.
Since 2002, the “Tower on the Green” clock tower has symbolized the proud spirit of the Garden Grove community. The iconic landmark, standing at the entrance to the Village Green Park, is undergoing a much needed “make-over” which includes sanding, scraping, wire brushing, and a fresh coat of paint. The $13,500 project is being funded by Park Improvements/Park Fees.
The public is invited to join City, County, and State officials as they re-dedicate a 21.5-acre park in Garden Grove after a two-year, $25 million overhaul. On Saturday, February 15, 2014, the community will welcome Haster Basin Recreational Park, formerly known as Twin Lakes Park, located at 12952 Lampson Avenue.

WHAT: Walmart will hire approximately 200 associates to work at the new Walmart slated to open this spring in Garden Grove. A temporary hiring center has opened at 12880 Beach Blvd. in Stanton.
At Tuesday’s State of the City luncheon, Garden Grove Mayor Bruce A. Broadwater gave a gleaming report on the City’s financial health, along with a timetable for anticipated groundbreakings and grand openings of major projects, such as the Great Wolf Lodge® water park hotel, and a new, full-service Walmart store. The event was hosted by the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce.
The wait is finally over. Today, the City of Garden Grove and the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce announced the winning name and ticket number of the City’s Buy in Garden Grove (BiGG)/Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce $500 cash giveaway. The winner is Myke Cossota. His winning ticket number was 465373.
