The City’s C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) begins a new, 20-hour, Friday through Sunday CERT Academy on April 20, 21, and 22. Classes take place Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at North Net Fire Training Center, 2400 E. Orangewood Avenue, Anaheim 92806.

Ten Years of Hands-Free Law: Challenges Remain

Drivers are using their cell phones less often while driving, 10 years after “hands-free” became the law, but distracted driving remains a serious safety challenge in California. Observing April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the first week in April as California Teen Safe Driving Week, safety advocates will focus on education and enforcement efforts statewide.

So Cal Edison to Upgrade All Edison-Owned Street Lights to LED

Southern California Edison, in coordination with the City of Garden Grove, is beginning a project to replace all 7,300 Edison-owned city street lights with energy-efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) street lighting. The project is scheduled to start during the third week of March 2018 and take approximately 30-40 days to complete.

Free Compost Giveaway to Garden Grove Residents

Garden Grove residents can receive up to 60 gallons, per vehicle, of nutrient-rich compost for free at Garden Grove’s annual Compost Giveaway. Rain or shine, the event takes place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Garden Grove Municipal Service Center, located at 13802 Newhope Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., or until supplies run out.

City Receives Awards of Excellence for Re:Imagine Garden Grove-Open Streets

The City’s Community Services Department was recently recognized with two Award of Excellence distinctions in Economic Vitality and Marketing and Communications for efforts made towards Re:Imagine Garden Grove-Open Streets. The awards were presented by the California Park and Recreation Society.
