On Sunday, January 18, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., various streets in the Grove District – Anaheim Resort area, along Harbor Boulevard, and in the Garden Grove Civic Center, will be closed for Disney’s inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon. The 13.1 mile race will begin at the Disneyland® Resort and affect various streets in Garden Grove, including Harbor Boulevard, Garden Grove Boulevard, Main Street, Euclid Street, and Chapman Avenue, limiting entrance and exit access.
Heading southbound on Harbor Boulevard there will be road closures in both directions from Katella Avenue to Chapman Avenue. Harbor Boulevard is projected to open by 8:15 a.m.
Chapman Avenue, heading westbound to Euclid Street, will allow one-way traffic. Chapman Avenue will be cleared by approximately 9:45 a.m.
Euclid Street will allow one-way traffic heading southbound to Lampson Avenue. At the intersection of Lampson Avenue and Euclid Street there will be restricted access, which will allow cars to cross the street when the roads are clear from runners. Euclid Street is estimated to open by 9:00 a.m.
Garden Grove Boulevard will allow one-way traffic going eastbound from 9th Street to Harbor Boulevard. Garden Grove Boulevard will be open by approximately 9:00 a.m.
Historic Main Street will be decorated with a light saber balloon arch, provided by Disney, to welcome runners through Garden Grove’s downtown area. About 100 Star Wars characters will be cheering runners on for the duration of the run at two Garden Grove locations: near Alonzo Cook’s statue in the Garden Grove Civic Center and in Village Green Park, at Euclid and Stanford. The majority of runners are expected to arrive at these areas between 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas have received prior notice. The Garden Grove Police Department’s Traffic Unit will be onsite during closure times to direct traffic and suggest alternate routes.
The Star Wars Half Marathon runs in conjunction with Disneyland® Resort’s inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend, which is the latest addition to the list of runDisney events in Anaheim. The half marathon will start at 5:30 a.m. on Disneyland Drive, go through Disney California Adventure® Park and Disneyland® Park; and then southbound on Harbor Boulevard through the Disney and Grove Resort Districts. It continues through Chapman Avenue to Euclid Street, and through the Garden Grove Civic Center, back to Harbor Boulevard until finishing at the Disneyland® Hotel at 10:00 a.m.
