The Garden Grove Police Department has a zero tolerance for DUI drivers who make the road unsafe for us all. We are committed to apprehending and arresting those who choose to driver under the influence of not only alcohol, but also illegal and prescription drugs. The Traffic Unit has several nights a month that are funded by the Office of Traffic Safety for saturation patrols, and DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints to focus on making arrests and towing cars from impaired drivers.
DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints are conducted at various locations within the city. If you drive through a checkpoint, have a valid license ready for the officer and be prepared for a quick screening. The officer greeting you is checking for signs and symptoms of a driver possibly driving under the influence. He or she is also checking to see if you are in possession of a valid California Driver’s License. If you appear to be under the influence, or if you are not licensed, you will be directed to a secondary screening area where another officer will assist.
If you are arrested for DUI, and you have a valid driver’s license, you will be able to get your vehicle out of impound the following business day. If you are issued a citation for driving while suspended, or are unlicensed, you will be able to get your vehicle in 30 days.
