Prior to serving on the Garden Grove City Council, Mayor William “Bill” Dalton was a lieutenant for the Garden Grove Police Department. Mayor Dalton was elected to the City Council for a four-year term in November 1998, and again in 2002. In November 2004, he was elected Mayor of Garden Grove, then re-elected in 2006 and 2008. 

Currently, Mayor Dalton serves as Chairman of the Orange County Sanitary District Operations Committee.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Transportation Authority.  He has been a member of the Garden Grove Elks Club and the Lions Club of Garden Grove.

Mayor Dalton received his bachelor's degree in Administration of Justice from California State University, Fullerton.

He has lived in Garden Grove since 1967. He and his wife, Sandra, have five children; Pamela, William Jr., Paula, Bob, and Brian.  In his spare time, he collects police and fire badges and patches.
