For the first time in eight years, the Garden Grove Housing Authority will be accepting pre-applications for the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. Applications to be placed on a waiting list will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010. The deadline to return applications is Saturday, July 31, 2010.

The United States Housing and Urban Development Department offers the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program to provide subsidized housing for low-income families and individuals.

“In 2002, nearly 6,000 people applied to the waiting list—some of which are still on the list today,” says Garden Grove Housing Authority Manager Danny Huynh. “It’s important to keep in mind that it may take two years or more to receive assistance, so applying now is crucial.”

According to Huynh, applications are prioritized based on several criteria including income, immigration status, and when the application was received.
